The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate scary movies: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like standard body horror, but within Together resides a deep contemplation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

A Debut Feature Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their roles, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the protagonists discover an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence starts to affect the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building of scares, weaving in bits of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and presents them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they deftly portray countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and removed from his social circle. He fears the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie never makes either of his characters the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. At their core, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
